Ever felt SO TIRED OF SEXISM YOU FELT LIKE you could make it into a bingo card?
Panel all male? Woman interrupted? Mainsplaining? Moderator doesn't call on women in the audience with questions? BINGO!
Perhaps you also notice some good points: neutral pronouns, women invited to collaborate, female keynote speakers? BINGO! With #W4OBingo, everyone wins, except sexism! This app is a creative way to challenge sexism and exclusion at conferences and meetings everywhere. Once you have completed the grid, you can share it and use it as a way to give feedback and shed visibility on these instances. |
How to Play
The next time you attend a conference:
- Once at the conference you can set a hashtag for that conference.
- Each time an encounter happens - positive or negative - tick the relevant box on your Bingo
card, hit 'flip board' to change between boards.
- Share each instance on social media by hitting 'share move'
- Got Bingo before the conference is over? Hit 'new cards' and keep playing!
- Spread the word! Get your colleagues to use the app too! Only by becoming aware that these things happen can we start to make change.

This app has been created by Women4Oceans. How come?
To save our oceans, everyone's voice needs to be heard. #W4OBingo is designed to shed light on dismissive or inappropriate behaviours at conferences and elsewhere that make these spaces less inclusive.
We hope this tool will help level the playing field and lead to more productive outcomes at conferences. From climate change to overfishing and plastic pollution, there really is no time to waste when it comes to our blue planet. This Bingo app is not limited to ocean conferences and can be used across all sectors.
A big thank you to Brian Fitzgerald / Dancing Fox for building the app, the quick turn-around and for their enthusiasm & support! More details about Dancing Fox and their amazing work can be found here: http://www.dancing-fox.com
If you see value in this app, please consider a donation to Women4Oceans. With your support we can continue to make waves for the ocean by promoting our human diversity as a key driver for change. - Thank You.
Disclaimer
The aim of Women4Oceans Gender Balance & Inclusion Bingo is to highlight gender disparity and exclusion and raise awareness of invisible barriers that cause women to feel uncomfortable in a professional context, such as at conferences. These barriers may contribute to deterring women from engaging with professional networking opportunities, professional events such as conferences, and sometimes result in leaving the entire professional field. Any one individual may experience these occurrences repeatedly. This app does not infer that the same situations would make all women uncomfortable at all times. These occurrences may seem minor to all besides the recipient. We leave it to individual judgement by the player to determine the relevance of an instance or situation to be included on their bingo card as an instance of sexism / exclusion or not.
Update: The app is now called Gender Balance Bingo. Please download the new version below (only change is the name - we are no longer Women4Oceans TimesUp Bingo).
